Neck & Jowl Liposuction

Some people have an accumulation of fat under the chin (submental fat pad), causing the appearance of double chin. This is often hereditary but it often gets worse with age.

In addition, a number of changes occur to the neck and jaw line as people get older. These include slackening of the angle underneath the jaw to the neck, accumulation of fat under the jaw, accumulation of fat in the jowls (area just above middle of the jaw on either side), loss of definition of the jaw line, and shrinking of the jaw bone.

The neck area can be readily sculpted with liposuction of the neck and jowl. The fat pads involved are relatively small in size, at least when compared with other parts of the body, and removal of even a small amount of fat can make a big difference to the appearance.

Depending on the amount of underlying changes, you may benefit from additional procedures, either at the same time or in sequence, to give the most natural and aesthetically pleasing results. These procedures may include tightening of the neck muscle (platysma), face lift and/or neck lift.

At your initial assessment, Dr Bernard Leung will discuss with you the treatments you would benefit from.

What does the neck liposuction involve?

The anatomy of your neck will be assessed carefully. The area to be treated will be marked, and is then filled with a special saline solution (tumescent solution). This numbs the area to be treated as well as prevent blood loss. Fat is then removed through a gentle suction process designed to minimise damage to surrounding tissues. A proportion of the tumescent solution remains inside the body, and it will be absorbed over the next day or so.

If a neck lift is necessary, it will be carried out once the neck liposuction has been completed.

A compression garment will usually have to be worn for a few days, to support the neck tissue during the initial healing process.

Will I see results immediately from neck liposuction?

Because the residual tumescent fluid takes several hours to be absorbed, the result is usually visible by the next day. There is likely to be some swelling for the first week or two, and the result will continue to improve for 4-6 months.

There is a minimal down time of several days if neck liposuction alone is carried out. When it is performed in conjunction with a neck lift, you may have to allow for a week or so off work.

Liposuction and neck lift target the subcutaneous fat and muscle layers, in other words the structural component of the neck. The neck skin may require additional treatment such as Pellevé radiofrequency skin tightening.

How much does neck liposuction cost?

We understand you are curious to know how much the procedure you are thinking of having might cost.

The truth is that with the cost of many procedures vary considerably depending on different factors, such as age, sex, skin tone, body fat content etc. We therefore believe it is unethical to give a cost estimate without gaining a proper understanding of your needs. Your body, your skin and your expectations are different to anybody else’s. We want to plan treatments based on your needs.

Our philosophy is simple. We want you to be fully informed, we want you to understand all your options and have one accurate price quoted once. Our experience tells us  that this is what most of our clients want too.
