Do you suffer from facial redness

Facial redness is probably one of the most common reasons that people come to see me for. Women often feel that they have to wear make up all the time to cover it. Almost all of the women suffer from diffuse facial redness. Many of them also have dilated capillaries (facial telangiectasia). These are often seen around the nose and the chin, and they are particularly distressing as they can be difficult to conceal even with make up. Although there are a number of medical conditions that can give rise to facial redness, the vast majority of these women have the skin condition called rosacea.

One of the most exciting things that have come about this year is that a highly effective topical medication has been approved for use in Australia. TGA regulations forbids us to mention this medication by name, as it is a prescription only medication that can only be prescribed by medical practitioners. It works by constricting the blood vessels in the skin which gives rise to the appearance of facial redness. It is highly effective in improving facial redness, and seems to have a low incidence of side effects such as irritant dermatitis, tolerance and rebound redness in clinical trials. It is important to bear in mind that there is no cure for rosacea. This medication, along with other medical and laser treatments, will help significantly to control this common and often distressing condition. We are able to prescribe and dispense this medication, along with the full range of treatment that is currently known to be medically beneficial for rosacea.

If you suffer from facial redness or diagnosed rosacea, I would be happy to see you for an assessment to discuss your individual needs and formulate a treatment plan.
