Non surgical Rhinoplasty

What is non-surgical rhinoplasty?

Enhancements of the shape of the nose have traditionally required surgical correction (rhinoplasty). This may include correction of curvature of the nose, bump on the nose, and various shape deformities. In addition, the aging process also affects the nose, with a tendency for the nasal tip to rotate downwards.

One of the breakthroughs within the last decade is the development of new techniques to allow correction of a number of these deformities with dermal fillers, either alone or in combination with wrinkle reducing injections. These techniques are collectively known as non-surgical (or medical) rhinoplasty.

What are the main advantages of non-surgical rhinoplasty?

Surgical rhinoplasty involves making incisions, breaking and reshaping nasal bones and/or cartilages, whereas non-surgical rhinoplasty does not involve any operation at all. It is a procedure which alters the shape of the nose without any incisions or blood loss. There is therefore no anaesthetic or airway risk. There is no down time, unlike the long recovery time from a surgical rhinoplasty. The effect is usually relatively long lasting (more than 1 year).

The effect of surgical rhinoplasty is not always satisfactory and the patient would have to undergo another round of procedure. With non-surgical rhinoplasty, it is quite simple to inject more dermal filler to effect an incremental change.

What are the disadvantages of non-surgical rhinoplasty?

The effect is not permanent. Not all nasal deformities can be corrected non-surgically.

Who will benefit from a non-surgical rhinoplasty?

There are two main groups who benefit from this procedure:

Individuals who have a crooked nose, small nose, bumps on the nose bridge and nasal droop or hooked nose etc. may benefit from non surgical rhinoplasty. The procedure is also suitable for those who are not prepared to undergo surgery, or cannot tolerate the down time and discomfort associated with surgery.

Ageing changes of the nose can often be corrected by medical rhinoplasty technique. Dr Leung often incorporates this as part of his total facial rejuvenation.

Is non-surgical rhinoplasty painful?

No. We suggest the use of local anaesthetic cream before the procedure. Additional local anaesthetic injections or nerve blocks may be used.

What do I need to do after the procedure?

Please do not wear heavy spectacles or sunglasses for at least two weeks after the surgery.
