Skin Needling

What is skin needling?

Skin Needling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that helps support the skin’s regeneration of collagen and elastin through a natural healing process.

Ultra fine, medical grade stainless steel needles are passed vertically across the skin creating multiple surface skin channels.

This treatment is designed to support skin regeneration to help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, improve skin texture, plump and firm giving an overall more youthful and glowing appearance.

This treatment can also support the healing of acne scars and improve the appearance of stretch marks and surgical scars.

Skin benefits

  • Supports synthesis of collagen and elastin
  • Reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Minimises pores, refines surface texture
  • Reduces appearance of acne scarring and stretch marks
  • Dramatically smooths coarse and thickened skin
  • Reduces the appearance of pores

Why should I try Ultra Medical Skin Needling?

  • Skin needling is the ultimate form of skin rejuvenation
  • Clinically tested to refine skin texture, reduce appearance of acne scarring and stretch marks
  • Less downtime compared to Laser and some peels
  • The skin needling system is refined enough for use around all facial contours, including delicate areas such as under the eyelids
  • Excellent for most skin types, compatible with all Fitzpatrick skin classifications

Am I a suitable candidate for skin needling?

  • Skin needling is not suitable for those who have been on Roaccutane in the last 6 months, have active acne, open wounds, infections, psoriasis or dermatitis in the area to be treated, have uncontrolled diabetes, are pregnant or breast feeding, or who are prone to keloid scars or other abnormal wound healing.
  • Precautions must be taken if you are currently using Retin A or products containing retinol.
  • Smokers should be aware that smoking compromises the body’s ability to grow new collagen.

Why do we use the Ultraceuticals Medical Skin Needling system?

The Ultra Skin Medical Needling system offers adjustable needle length and speed allowing us to develop a specialised program for your skin concerns.

Ultraceuticals needling pen uses vertical insertion, which is far more preferable to other dermal rollers on the market, as there is no risk of the skin being torn during the needling process.

How soon can I expect results?

This depends on what you are treating and how often you perform treatments. Most patients will see progress within a few weeks and the process of skin improvement can continue for months after treatment.

The phases of wound healing

1. Inflammatory Phase (1-5 days)

Redness occurs, platelets form to prevent further bleeding and commence the release of growth factors.

2. Proliferative Phase (2-21 days)

Increase fibroblast activity stimulates collagen and fibronectin creating more elastin in the dermal layer. New blood vessels are formed.

3. Remodelling Phase (3 weeks to 2 years)

Collagen is remodelled and realigned creating a more plump dermis. Scar tissue is flattened, epidermal layer becomes more dense.

How many treatments do I need?

At your initial consultation, we will discuss your areas of concern and design a treatment plan to suit your needs. A package of treatments may be suggested at 4-6 week intervals. After your initial course of treatments, some clients find that maintenance treatmenteds are required 3 to 6 monthly; this will be discussed at the completion of your treatment. Results are very dependant on diet, general health, how well your skin is taken care of at home and how well it is protected from the sun.

How does skin needling compare with laser rejuvenation treatments?

Although skin needling and laser rejuvenation ultimately both achieve improved skin firmness and texture with minimisation of scarring, they work in uniquely different ways. Skin needling does not create heat in the skin. This means it can be safely performed on all skin types and that it may be a safer treatment for sensitive thin skinned areas such as the neck and chest.

Skin needling is a cost effective and low downtime alternative to laser skin rejuvenation.

For best results

With all of our skin and face treatments we always recommend following a good at home skincare regime to maximise the results from your treatments in clinic. We will provide you with a tailored at home skincare regime at your initial consultation.

Why should I have skin needling at Facial Artistry?

The Ultra Skin Medical Needling system we use offers adjustable needle length and speed allowing us to develop a specialised program for your skin concerns. The adjustable needle length is important because, skin on the face has different thickness in different areas, so requires different depths of penetration for the most advanced treatment, not just one length needle like on the “older style” rollers.

Ultraceuticals needling pen uses vertical insertion, which is far more preferable to other dermal rollers on the market, as there is no risk of the skin being torn during the needling process.
