One of the most popular treatments that Dr Leung regularly performs is blepharoplasty (upper eyelid surgery). Blepharoplasty surgery involves the removal of the loose hood of redundant skin from your upper eyelid. Due to aging and sun damage, we develop increasing laxity of the very thin eyelid skin. When the eye opens, the redundant upper eyelid skin folds like a concertina door forming a hooded look in the upper eyelid. With increasing severity, this fold of skin sits on, or hangs below the eyelashes. We achieve a younger look and effectively turn back the clock by removing this redundant skin and the underlying orbicularis muscle using radiofrequency surgery.

In addition to loose or hooded eyelid skin, people often suffer from wrinkles around their eyes. The skin around the eye is very delicate and tends to become thinner with age. Patients often want to know what can be done about their unwanted wrinkles under their eyes and their tired looking skin.

This is why Dr Leung has pioneered one of the latest eye rejuvenation treatments called Periorbital Pearl Fusion. This treatment uses a combination of Pearl and Pearl Fractional laser resurfacing modalities to treat the upper and lower eyelid skin.

How does it work?

The Pearl laser allows a complete renewal of the epidermis, which can help minimise uneven pigmentation and will reveal new fresh healthy looking skin. The Pearl Fractional resurfacing causes new collagen formation deeper in the dermis. This collagen stimulation thickens the skin and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. The combination of these two treatments provides optimal rejuvenation of the skin in this delicate area.

Most patients describe the treatment as a series of fast, hot pinches. Dr Bernard Leung uses a topical anaesthesia to numb the areas to be treated.

Who would benefit from a Periorbital Pearl Fusion treatment?

Pearl Fusion treatment suits most people. Middle aged men and women with fine lines and wrinkles around their eye areas would benefit from a Pearl Fusion treatment. However, Periorbital Pearl Fusion can be done after a blepharoplasty treatment to further rejuvenate the eyes or following dermal filler/Liquid Facelift treatment.

How long does Periorbital Pearl Fusion treatment take?

The treatment usually takes less than an hour.

What downtime is involved?

After a Pearl Fusion treatment there is typically a week of downtime.
After treatment, the eyelid skin may be quite swollen, due to its delicate nature. Patients report little or no discomfort post treatment. During post care, patients apply ointment to the skin for four to five days and should limit sun exposure.

When will I see results?

Many patients see improvement one week after treatment. Maximum results are visible in one to three months as new collagen formation and collagen remodelling take place over time. Patients may apply makeup one week after treatment. We recommend jane iredale mineral makeup.

How many treatments are recommended?

Most patients will see significant results after just one treatment. This is why most patients prefer to have this treatment over some other laser treatments where you may need to have a series of treatments to achieve similar results.

How much is a Periorbital Pearl Fusion treatment?

Like with most cosmetic treatments, a treatment plan is tailored to suit individual needs. An initial assessment with Dr Bernard Leung is recommended to discuss your suitability for Periorbital Pearl Fusion treatment.
